A Sample Evaluation Scorecard for Private Label Coatings

A private label coating sample should answer a purchasing question, not just produce an attractive water-beading video. A simple scorecard helps distinguish product behaviour from differences in preparation, panel condition and installer technique.

Control the comparison

Use comparable, properly prepared surfaces and identify each test area. Record the sample reference, surface, preparation steps, installer and working conditions. Follow the instructions for each sample rather than imposing one removal time on different formulations.

Retain an uncoated comparison area when suitable. Keep polishing oils, drying aids and maintenance products out of the initial assessment unless they are part of the intended system. Otherwise, the observed effect may come from an additional product.

Record evidence beside each score

Assess spreading, visibility during application, removal effort and finished appearance. A score of four out of five is less useful than a note explaining that removal was easy on the bonnet but required another towel on a warmer door.

• Photograph the finish under consistent light before and after application.
• Note any residue and the exact method used to resolve it.
• Record the permitted first wash and the shampoo used.
• Revisit the same areas after comparable use and washing.

Separate installation convenience from longer-term performance. A short sample trial cannot prove a multi-year service-life claim, and water behaviour alone does not measure every protective property.

Decide what requires another trial

Repeat an unexpected result before rejecting or approving a sample. If the surface history is uncertain, test again on a controlled panel. Send NANOLAB the conditions and observations rather than only a pass or fail label.
