Keep paint and PPF zones distinct when tracking coating maintenance, especially where one vehicle carries several surface systems.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A half-wrapped vehicle can receive one maintenance visit but still contain two different surface systems. The exposed paint and the installed film may have different preparation histories, coating products and appearance limits. One vehicle-level note can hide those distinctions.
Identify fully wrapped panels, partial coverage and exposed paint. Record the exact film and coating where known. If the bonnet has a partial film line, split it into two zones rather than assigning the whole panel to PPF.
| Field | Paint zone | Film zone |
|---|---|---|
| Baseline | Paint preparation and existing defects | Film identity and installation condition |
| Care method | Approved for paint/coating system | Approved for film/coating system |
| Change | Record location and appearance | Also note edges, joins and film condition |
If a coated bumper film behaves differently from exposed roof paint, position and exposure differ as well as material. That observation can guide maintenance, but it does not isolate the effect of the film or prove which coating lasts longer.
A replacement wing, new film section or recoated door creates a new starting point for that zone. Keep the previous record rather than overwriting it. At the next visit, the technician can then distinguish a six-month-old treatment from a recently repaired panel. The owner still receives a simple care plan, while the workshop retains enough detail to explain local differences accurately.
