Organising Towels in a Detailing Workshop
Create a simple towel system that prevents wheel dirt, polishing residue and cured coating from reaching clean paint-finishing tools.

Assign roles visibly
Separate towels for wheels, washing, drying, polishing residue, panel preparation and coating levelling. Use labels, distinct storage areas or colour coding that everyone understands. A colour system is useful only when its meaning is consistent across the workshop.
Keep clean stock covered and away from sanding or polishing dust. Do not place unused towels on a vehicle simply to keep them within reach.
Separate used materials immediately
Use clearly marked containers for different types of used towel. Coating residue may require different handling from normal wash dirt. Inspect dropped towels before deciding their next use, and never assume a quick shake removes abrasive particles.
Follow compatible laundering instructions and avoid products that leave unwanted residue on finishing towels.
Add an inspection point
Check towels before each sensitive task for grit, stiffness, damaged edges and lint. Retire or reassign only when the new role is suitable for their condition. Keep coating towels traceable so cured residue is not returned to paint work. Good organisation reduces hidden contamination and makes it easier to identify the cause when a finish starts smearing or marking.
