Coating Weathering Panels: Identify the Exposed Face and Orientation

Orientation determines which surface receives the intended exposure. An unidentified face or mounting direction can make follow-up observations ambiguous.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Mark specimens outside the evaluated area and record mounting position. Preserve the relationship between sample identity, exposed face and photographs.

A transparent sample photographed from the reverse side may appear different from the original inspection without a material change.

Decision limits

Do not infer orientation later from the most visually damaged area. Establish and preserve it before exposure starts.
