Practical approach
Specify the panel support, mounting and any background used for optical assessment. Keep those conditions consistent across compared samples.
Transparent glass over a dark background may show residue differently from the same glass over a light background.
Decision limits
Do not compare results from changed supports as if only the coating changed. Record the difference and repeat the relevant observation if necessary.
