Weathering Tests for Coatings: Record the Exposure Cycle

Total test hours do not fully describe an accelerated-weathering exposure. Light, moisture and temperature stages belong to the method.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Obtain the complete cycle and specimen conditions from the laboratory. Compare results only with a clear understanding of differences in exposure.

Two reports listing the same hours may use substantially different cycles and therefore should not be treated as equivalent challenges.

Decision limits

Do not convert hours to outdoor years using a universal multiplier. Any service-life inference needs relevant validated evidence.
