Coating Supplier Knowledge Transfer: Confirm the Receiving Team Can Use the Information

A technical handover is complete when the receiving team can locate and apply the relevant information for its role. Sending a folder of documents does not, by itself, establish that sales, support and installers understand the product system.

The key distinction

Define a few realistic tasks for each role. Sales may need to distinguish product choices, support may need to identify escalation triggers, and installers may need the approved application instructions. The handover should test those tasks using current documents rather than relying only on attendance at a presentation.

Practical checks

  1. Identify the decisions each receiving role must make.
  2. Provide the current information and a clear route for unresolved questions.
  3. Use representative scenarios to check understanding and record gaps for correction.

Example

Illustrative example: a distributor has received every technical file but its sales team still describes two alternative coatings as consecutive layers. A scenario-based check reveals the misunderstanding before customers receive an unsuitable recommendation. The correction concerns information use, not merely document delivery.

Scope and limits

Do not turn a brief knowledge check into an unsupported installer certification. Product-specific training and qualification requirements still apply. This guide describes a practical handover check and does not authorize a team to perform work beyond its training or the supplier's approved process.
