A full polishing range.
From cutting and one-step correction to final finishing.
A development or filling trial may consume material in ways that do not represent a stable production run. Record those uses separately before turning the trial's overall loss into a routine purchasing assumption.

Distinguish learning activities from the intended repeat process. Samples taken for investigation, rejected setup attempts and retained specimens can all be legitimate trial uses, but they answer different questions from normal filling yield. Keep them in the total project cost while identifying which are expected to recur.
Arithmetic example: a trial uses 1 litre, with 200 ml allocated to planned evaluations and 700 ml accepted into finished units. Calling the remaining 300 ml routine production loss would combine two distinct uses. The evaluation allocation belongs in the project record but needs separate treatment in future yield planning.
Do not remove trial losses from the business cost simply because they are inconvenient. The distinction improves forecasting, not the reported total. Any unexplained material difference still needs review, and the next run should verify assumptions rather than treating them as established performance.
