Tracking Split Shipments of One Coating Batch across Different Pack Sizes

Maintain traceability when one coating batch is filled into several pack sizes and dispatched through separate shipments.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A single formulation batch can become several finished-goods lots when filled into different packages or on different dates. Shipment records should preserve both the common product origin and the distinct packaging histories.

Keep two linked identities

Record the bulk formulation batch and the finished pack lot. Include filling date, pack size, bottle and closure component lots where required by the quality system. Do not replace the bulk identity with a sales SKU alone.

Map the split

Record Purpose
Bulk batch to fill lot Links product origin and packaging event
Fill lot to carton Identifies shipped units
Carton to shipment Locates distribution history
Shipment to recipient Supports a targeted follow-up

Reconcile quantities

Account for filled units, retained samples, rejected units and remaining bulk material under the applicable process. Convert pack quantities consistently when checking totals. A count of bottles cannot be compared directly across different fill sizes.

Use the links in an investigation

If leakage occurs only in one size, examine its packaging history while retaining the shared formulation batch as a relevant factor. If a product-quality concern spans sizes, the bulk link becomes important. Preserve the ability to distinguish those cases before a complaint arrives. A clear split-shipment record supports proportionate investigation and prevents all packs from being treated as identical merely because their contents originated in one tank.
