Coating Project Completion Percentages: Weight by the Work Being Measured

A project can be partly complete by area, labour or accepted deliverables, and those percentages may differ. Name the basis instead of reporting a single unexplained completion figure.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

Early stages may consume substantial labour without producing accepted finished area. Conversely, many simple panels can be completed while a smaller difficult section remains. A useful progress report shows the measure relevant to the next decision and identifies unresolved release requirements.

Practical checks

  1. Define the completion basis before reporting progress.
  2. Track the underlying quantities consistently.
  3. Keep technical acceptance and remaining dependencies visible.

Example

Arithmetic example: ninety of one hundred panels are coated, but the final ten require unusually complex preparation. Ninety percent by panel count does not necessarily mean ninety percent of labour is complete.

Scope and limits

Do not label work complete before the required inspection and release stages. The metric should explain progress, not replace the agreed definition of an accepted finished job.
