Coating Analysis in Percent and ppm: Preserve the Concentration Basis

One percent equals ten thousand parts per million when both expressions use the same basis. Confirm that basis before converting an analytical result or comparing it with a specification.

The key distinction

Mass-based ppm and a value expressed per liquid volume are not automatically interchangeable. The original report should identify the quantity and denominator, with any required density information supplied separately.

Practical checks

  1. Identify the concentration basis and units.
  2. Convert only compatible quantities.
  3. Keep the original value and conversion calculation traceable.

Example

Arithmetic example: 0.02 percent by mass equals 200 parts per million by mass. That arithmetic does not automatically convert a result reported in milligrams per litre.

Scope and limits

Do not infer safety, compliance or product performance from the converted number alone. This guide supplies a unit relationship, not an acceptance limit or a formulation instruction for any NANOLAB product.
