Coating Colour Difference: State Which Delta E Formula Was Used

Delta E is not one universally interchangeable calculation. Different colour-difference formulas can produce different numerical results.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Record the formula, illuminant, observer and measurement conditions with the reported value.

A supplier's Delta E 2000 result should not be silently compared with a limit defined using an older formula.

Decision limits

Do not assign a universal visible-or-invisible threshold without considering the application and agreed method.
