Detergent Residue in Towels Used on Ceramic Coating

Investigate towel laundering when a coated car shows recurring drying streaks despite a careful wash and rinse.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Repeated streaks after drying a ceramic-coated car may come from the towel rather than the paint. Laundry products, inadequate rinsing or contamination from other loads can affect a towel’s behaviour. Investigate that possibility before changing the coating maintenance product.

Compare with a known clean towel

Wash and rinse a small suitable area, then dry it with a clean towel whose preparation history is known. Keep the panel conditions and technique comparable. If the result changes, the towel becomes a useful line of investigation, although one comparison does not identify the exact residue.

Check whether the problematic towel smears, repels water unexpectedly or feels different from its normal condition. Do not rub harder to compensate. Set it aside from finish-sensitive work until assessed.

Review the laundry process

Follow the towel manufacturer’s laundering instructions. Review detergent choice and amount, load size, rinsing and any softeners or finishing products used. Keep towels contaminated with coating chemicals separate and handle them according to the relevant product instructions; ordinary laundry is not an assumed remedy for cured coating residue.

Inspect the washing machine and storage route as well. A clean towel can collect dressing or polish from a shared shelf after laundering. Separate wheel, interior and paint towels by role and condition.

Confirm the correction

After a suitable laundering reset, retest the towel before returning it to general paint use. If streaking remains with several known clean towels, investigate shampoo rinsing, water quality and applied maintenance products instead.

Use the coating’s maintenance guidance to keep cleaners compatible during the comparison. The goal is to identify the source with a small controlled test, avoiding unnecessary toppers or polishing that would change several variables at once.
