Coating Colour Checks: Read the Direction of Change, Not Only Delta E

A single colour-difference value describes magnitude but does not explain the direction of the change. Component differences provide additional context.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Review lightness and colour-coordinate changes alongside the total difference and visual assessment.

Two samples can have similar total differences while one becomes lighter and another shifts in hue.

Decision limits

Do not describe every equal Delta E value as the same appearance change.
