Coating Colour Reports: SCI and SCE Are Different Measurement Modes

SCI includes the specular component in colour measurement; SCE excludes it. The modes can respond differently to surface appearance.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Record the mode and keep it consistent when comparing treated and reference samples.

A gloss-changing treatment can complicate interpretation if the baseline uses one mode and the final measurement uses the other.

Decision limits

Do not compare the numbers without their method context or choose a mode after seeing which result is more favourable.
