Coating Roughness Reports: Ra and Rz Describe Different Profile Features
Ra and Rz are different roughness parameters. Their values cannot be exchanged simply because both are reported in micrometres.

Practical approach
Record the parameter, applicable standard, filtering and evaluation settings. Ask the analyst which feature is relevant to the surface question.
Two profiles can have similar average roughness while differing in their peaks and valleys.
Decision limits
Do not use a universal Ra-to-Rz conversion or apply a limit without its stated method.
