Coating Trials: Separate Positive Controls from Untreated Controls

An untreated control and a reference treatment serve different purposes. The first describes the baseline; the second can help compare the candidate with an established process.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Label each group by its role and apply the agreed preparation. Define the comparison before seeing the results.

A new product may improve on untreated paint yet differ little from the current approved system. Both observations can be useful.

Decision limits

Do not present superiority to an untreated surface as proof of superiority to every alternative coating.
