Describe the coating, substrate and available sample to the laboratory before selecting preparation.
A thin layer on a substrate may need a different approach from a free film or liquid sample.
Decision limits
Do not compare spectra as interchangeable without considering sampling geometry, preparation and the analyst's interpretation.
