Wash Pressure in Coating Comparisons: Specify the Method

A wash-cycle count is incomplete without the contact and rinse method. Two trials can use the same number of washes and impose very different conditions.

Describe the operation

Record cleaner, dilution, tools, contact method and the equipment instructions used for rinsing. Where a parameter cannot be measured reliably, state that limitation. Do not label a hand-wash process standardised merely because the same operator performed it.

Keep changes visible

Replacement mitts, changed nozzles or a different water supply can alter the trial. Record those changes and distinguish planned maintenance from accidental deviations. Avoid adjusting the method after one product appears to struggle.

Interpret the endpoint narrowly

Report the observed result under the documented wash sequence. It does not translate automatically into years of road use. If comparing another report, first assess whether its exposure and inspection method are comparable. A shared wash count alone is insufficient.

Frequently asked question

Does surviving 100 washes equal a fixed number of service years?

No. The method and real-world exposure determine what the wash-cycle observation can support.
