Toppers in Coating Durability Trials: State Which System Is Being Tested

Adding a topper changes the exposed surface. A durability trial should distinguish the original coating from a maintained multi-product system.

Choose the claim before the protocol

Decide whether the trial evaluates the coating alone or the coating plus its specified maintenance products. Both can be useful questions, but they are different. Record the chosen objective before results are known.

Log every addition

Identify product, dose method, application date and treated areas. Keep comparison groups consistent where appropriate. Do not apply an unrecorded spray to restore attractive beading before a scheduled photograph or demonstration.

Describe the result accurately

If toppers are part of the plan, report the performance of the maintained system and its workload. If the question concerns the original exposed coating, additional products may confound that observation. Keep the original timeline and any protocol changes available to reviewers.

Frequently asked question

Can strong beading after a booster prove the base coating’s unchanged performance?

No. The booster changes the observed surface, so the result must be described accordingly.
