Create repeatable exclusion templates for glass coating projects where sealants or other bonding systems require an untreated contact zone.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A coating suitable for the broad glass face is not automatically suitable beneath every sealant or adhesive. Where the approved assembly requires an untreated bonding zone, the coating process needs a repeatable way to preserve it.
Obtain the required exclusion area from the responsible glass, sealant or assembly specification. Do not invent a universal margin. The coating and bonding suppliers should resolve compatibility before production begins.
Use a drawing-linked template that locates from stable pane features. Identify its orientation and revision. Confirm that the masking material, contact method and removal procedure are compatible with the glass and subsequent bonding process.
| Control | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Template revision | Matches the current drawing |
| Orientation check | Prevents a mirrored exclusion |
| Boundary inspection | Confirms the intended area remains protected |
Run a representative pane through the complete sequence, including masking removal and final preparation. Review the boundary with the assembly team. A template that looks correct before coating may still create residue or an unclear edge afterwards.
Inspect reusable templates for wear, contamination and distortion. Replace or revalidate them when the pane design, masking system or coating process changes. Do not repair a critical locating edge informally and continue using the same approval record.
The deliverable is a reproducible untreated zone with a clear inspection method. It is not a claim that all sealants fail on all coatings, nor a substitute for the exact assembly’s compatibility evidence.
