Updating the Coating Plan After One PPF Panel Is Replaced

Replacing PPF on one panel changes the protection history of the vehicle. The new film does not inherit the coating that was on the removed piece, and it may have different initial care requirements from the surrounding older film. Plan the transition with the film installer and coating provider.

Record what was removed and installed

Identify the panel, film type and replacement date. Note whether the underlying paint was repaired or refinished as part of the work. Keep the previous coating record, but mark the replaced section clearly so future maintenance does not assume one installation date for the whole vehicle.

Explain the mixed-age maintenance record

Document whether and when the replacement panel was coated. Give the owner any temporary restrictions that apply only to that area, and make the wash team aware of them. Avoid describing a local replacement as renewal of the entire vehicle’s coating.

At the next maintenance visit, compare panels with their different histories in mind. A clear record prevents normal differences between old and new surfaces from being mistaken for an unexplained product failure.
