Magnetic business signs can leave trapped-grit marks, outlines and residue. Remove the sign and inspect the painted contact area before promising full correction.

Assess the starting condition

Ask how often the sign was removed and cleaned, and whether it stayed on wet paint. Examine the sign’s rear surface as well as the panel. A visible outline may include surface scratches and a different exposure history.

A practical working method

  1. Wash the panel and clean the magnet’s contact face separately.
  2. Identify any bubbling, discolouration or adhesion failure that needs a paint specialist.
  3. Test a conservative polish on stable paint and compare inside and outside the sign footprint.
  4. Agree on the remaining appearance and a maintenance routine before replacing the sign.

Common mistake

Polishing harder to erase a shadow can sacrifice paint without fixing a colour difference. Replacing a dirty magnetic sign immediately after correction can also recreate marks during the next journey.

What a useful result looks like

A useful result distinguishes corrected scratches from unresolved finish differences. Ceramic coating does not make grit trapped beneath a magnet harmless. Keep the sign’s future care instructions visible and avoid magnetic attachments where the vehicle or sign manufacturer advises against them.
