Record whether the spot is factory paint, a brush repair, a clear-coated repair or an unknown product. Ask when it was applied and whether the repair instructions are available. A small spot does not automatically mean a low-risk correction task.
Reducing a raised touch-up spot is a local repair operation. Polishing the sound surrounding finish is a different service. Avoid using a general compound-and-pad combination as an improvised way to discover the spot’s thickness or adhesion.
If the repairer confirms an appropriate process, trial it within a controlled boundary. Compare colour, texture and clarity separately. An old chip may remain identifiable even after the surface looks smoother. Record that limitation before choosing any subsequent coating, and preserve nearby edges from unnecessary abrasion.
