From cutting and one-step correction to final finishing.
A decal under clear coat and a decal applied on top of paint are different surfaces. Confirm which layer is exposed before polishing graphics.

Ask the owner or repairer whether the graphic is beneath a paint layer, exposed vinyl or covered by film. An edge visible under light is useful evidence but does not establish the complete construction. When the answer is unknown, avoid abrasive testing directly on the graphic.
A machine can contact an exposed graphic edge even when most of the pad is on paint. Mask or exclude the transition using an appropriate process. Do not let the backing, residue or repeated wiping become an unintended decal-removal operation.
For a sound clear-coated graphic, follow the paint system’s assessed polishing plan. For exposed film, obtain that film’s care guidance. Describe the treated layer in the job record so future installers do not interpret the service as proof that all graphics tolerate car polish.
Not without identifying the exposed finish and confirming suitability for the graphic or film system.
