Report the zones actually inspected on a coated vessel and identify inaccessible areas so a partial survey is not mistaken for complete coverage.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A coating inspection may be limited by berth position, access equipment, weather or vessel operation. The report should show what was examined and what remains unknown. A general statement that “the boat looks good” can conceal a substantial uninspected area.
Divide the vessel into identifiable surfaces and assign each a code. Include port and starboard sides, high panels, recesses and frequently contacted areas where relevant. Use a diagram that another technician can follow without being present at the original visit.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Inspected | Viewed using the agreed method |
| Partially inspected | Only a defined portion was accessible |
| Not inspected | No conclusion about condition |
| Inspection limited | Lighting, contamination or access reduced confidence |
If the reachable lower panel is clean, report that observation. Do not assume a sheltered upper recess has the same condition. Where sampling is used deliberately, describe the sampling plan and its limits rather than presenting every unsampled zone as accepted.
List the access or preparation required for outstanding zones and who will arrange it. Do not encourage climbing or reaching beyond safe access arrangements to complete a checklist. For example, a hull-side inspection from the berth may be followed by a separate visit when suitable access is available. The final report can then combine both records while retaining the date and conditions of each observation.
