Customers often describe paint-correction goals with broad phrases such as perfect paint or make it shine. A consultation should turn those phrases into priorities and an agreed scope. This helps the workshop recommend work that matches the customer's expectations and the vehicle's assessed condition.
Discuss the defects the customer notices, how they view the vehicle and the level of work they are considering. Separate general appearance improvement from a desire to address specific marks. Record the customer's own priorities before presenting a standard package.
Show representative areas under suitable inspection conditions and explain what the workshop still needs to assess. Avoid promising removal of a defect before its nature and treatment options are understood. A test area may help define a realistic approach where appropriate, but it should not be treated as a guarantee for every panel.
For example, a customer may prefer a balanced enhancement over additional work focused on a small number of isolated defects. Record that choice and any limitations discussed. Keep protection selection separate from correction scope so the coating is not presented as a substitute for unresolved appearance work. The consultation should end with a clear description of the intended improvement, excluded work and the process for approving changes after inspection.
Replace make it perfect with an agreed description such as reduce visible wash marks while preserving a sensible correction limit. Identify which marks matter most to the customer and which require further assessment. Record the lighting or viewing conditions used during the discussion.
Use a test area to demonstrate a feasible finish where appropriate, then confirm the chosen scope before proceeding. A customer may value improved overall clarity more than chasing an isolated deep mark. Keep that decision in the job record and quotation. The consultation should create shared expectations about the appearance work, without promising defect removal percentages or outcomes that the inspection and test have not established.
