Engineered Stone: Check the Manufacturer’s Care Rules

Engineered stone and composite surfaces are not all made or finished in the same way. Their manufacturer instructions should guide any decision about cleaning, preparation or added protection.

Identify the product precisely

Find the brand, surface type and finish from the installation documents. Note factory treatments and warranty-related care restrictions. The broad description “quartz worktop” is not enough to establish compatibility with a particular coating or solvent.

Define the proposed benefit

Explain whether the concern is appearance, cleaning residue or a specific recurring deposit. Ask whether a coating is permitted and useful for that application. Confirm food-contact suitability separately where relevant; approval for a nearby splashback or decorative panel does not establish approval for a food-preparation surface.

Test only within approved guidance

If the surface manufacturer and coating supplier support the application, use a discreet representative test and assess it after curing. Do not abrade or aggressively strip an unknown factory finish to make a coating adhere. Keep the accepted product and care instructions with the kitchen records for future cleaning and service.
