Natural Stone and Nano Coating: Identify Before Applying

Natural stone varies in composition, finish and existing treatment. A product suitable for glass or metal should not be used on stone based only on a general “surface protection” description.

Collect the stone information

Identify the stone type and supplier, and check whether it has been sealed or treated previously. Note polished, honed or textured finishes. If the material cannot be identified, ask the installer or stone specialist before applying a cleaner or preparation product.

Evaluate appearance and use

Describe the location, exposure and desired result to the coating supplier. Consider whether the area is a walking surface or contacts food. A discreet test should include the full preparation process and be assessed after curing for colour, sheen and any visible residue.

Preserve specialist care

Follow the stone manufacturer’s instructions and keep incompatible cleaners away from adjacent stone during glass or stainless treatment. Do not assume a coating makes the stone immune to staining, etching or damage.
