Automatic-wash damage often presents as a dense pattern of fine marks with a few more severe outliers. Those two groups should not be evaluated as one uniform problem. A heavy-cut process can reduce the widespread pattern while leaving isolated lines that need a separate decision.
Inspect clean paint using consistent lighting and record representative areas from more than one panel. Note whether the marks are evenly distributed or concentrated in particular zones. Do not assume every panel has identical paint or damage because the same wash process touched the whole vehicle.
Define the appearance goal with the owner. A daily-use vehicle may need a substantial improvement under normal viewing conditions, while a specialist finish demands a more stringent inspection. Neither objective justifies ignoring paint condition.
If appropriate, start with fine cut on a representative area. Where that result falls short, test a supported heavy-cut combination and its required refinement. Compare the complete cleaned results rather than the immediate shine left by each liquid.
Record the widespread marks separately from the isolated defects. For example, a test can achieve a clear improvement in the wash pattern while retaining three previously identified scratches. That description is more defensible than a broad percentage assigned to the entire car.
If most paint meets the goal with a milder process, reserve heavier correction for justified areas. Reassess a different response on a repaired panel instead of extending the original recipe automatically.
The final check should include section boundaries and vulnerable areas, not just the centre of the test spot. Confirm that cutting haze has been refined and that residue is not masking remaining marks.
At handover, connect the result to a practical maintenance plan. If the same damaging wash contact continues, new marks can appear after an excellent correction. That possibility does not mean the original polishing failed, but it should shape the owner’s expectations and future care choices.
