Retain a documented reference process while evaluating a replacement supply relationship.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge
Changing a coating supplier should not erase the evidence behind the existing process. A documented baseline makes it possible to evaluate the proposed alternative and explain the transition to staff. Without one, comparisons can become a contest between memory and a fresh sales demonstration.
Record the existing product, intended uses, preparation process, instructions and support responsibilities. Note known strengths and unresolved problems. Distinguish a product issue from a service issue so the new evaluation addresses the reason for considering a change.
Evaluate the candidate on representative surfaces using its own approved instructions. Keep observations comparable while acknowledging that procedures may differ. Record material use and operating effort where relevant, but do not assume that the same bottle size or product category means the systems are interchangeable.
For example, a candidate may suit new installations while existing customers still need instructions for the previous product. Keep those document paths available and identify stock clearly. Decide how staff will recognize the change, which customer materials need revision and who handles questions about older work. Approve the new supplier for a stated scope and retain both evaluation records. A controlled transition protects continuity without requiring the business to pretend that the two products are identical.
Keep the current product as a documented reference and define why a change is being considered: supply continuity, application workflow, market positioning or another specific need. Evaluate the candidate against that need while preserving comparable preparation and inspection conditions where appropriate.
Record differences that prevent a direct comparison, such as a different approved process. Do not force both products through one method merely to make the test appear fair. If a replacement is selected, plan the transition of stock, instructions and customer support separately. Existing installations retain their original product identity. A supplier change should not cause an old customer's maintenance record to be rewritten as though the new product had always been installed.
