First-in, first-out follows receipt sequence, while first-expiring, first-out follows the relevant expiry sequence. Use the rotation approach required by the actual product and inventory process rather than treating the terms as interchangeable.

The records must support the chosen approach. Expiry information should come from approved supplier documentation, and stock must still meet release and condition requirements. A rotation rule does not make held or damaged material available for sale.
Illustrative example: a later delivery contains stock with an earlier documented expiry. FIFO and FEFO would prioritize different units, so the business needs a deliberate rule.
This guide does not establish NANOLAB shelf-life terms. Follow the exact product documentation and do not extend dates or release questionable stock merely to preserve the planned sequence.
