Coating Label Seams: Keep Critical Information Readable After Wrapping

The seam of a wraparound label can interrupt text, symbols or variable coding. Review the applied label and reserve a suitable information layout before approving a bottle design for production.

The key distinction

The final seam position depends on the bottle, label dimensions and application process. A flat proof cannot show every visibility issue. Essential instructions and identifiers should remain readable through normal handling, while the production team needs a clear reference for acceptable placement.

Practical checks

  1. Identify the expected seam region on the approved bottle drawing.
  2. Review critical content and coding positions against that region.
  3. Inspect representative applied labels across the expected placement variation.

Example

Illustrative example: a batch code sits near the trailing edge and becomes partly hidden when the label overlaps. The code may be correct and well printed but still unusable for support. Moving the coding field within the approved layout addresses a different problem from changing the printer's ink.

Scope and limits

Do not assume the seam will always land in exactly one position. The packer should define the relevant process tolerances and acceptance criteria. This guide does not prescribe a universal label overlap; it focuses on preserving usable product information in the actual packaging configuration.
