Coating Label Reconciliation: Count Issued, Used, Returned and Scrapped Labels

A label reconciliation should explain where the labels issued to a filling run went. Count acceptable use, unused returns and scrap separately rather than comparing only the starting roll with finished bottles.

The key distinction

The record helps identify unexplained differences and prevents obsolete or incorrect labels from returning to uncontrolled stock. Use the actual production definitions and keep replacement labels or rework visible.

Practical checks

  1. Record labels issued to the run.
  2. Count accepted use, authorized returns and documented scrap.
  3. Investigate the remaining difference before closing the reconciliation.

Example

Arithmetic example: 1,000 labels are issued, 950 are used on accepted packs, 30 are returned and 20 are scrapped. The record reconciles to 1,000 without hiding the scrap as finished output.

Scope and limits

These figures are illustrative. A balanced count does not prove every label was applied to the correct product; identity and artwork checks remain separate requirements.
