Closure Torque after Shipping Vibration: Compare Matched Coating Packages

Compare matched coating packages before and after a defined transport simulation when investigating closure torque and leakage.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A closure that feels loose after delivery needs a structured packaging investigation. Removal torque, applied torque and seal performance are related observations, but they are not interchangeable measurements.

Record the initial package

Identify bottle, closure, liner, formulation, fill level and closure-application process. Use calibrated equipment and a defined method where torque is measured. Do not replace instrument results with subjective descriptions such as “hand tight.”

Use matched groups

Prepare comparable packages for the transport challenge and an appropriate unchallenged control. Agree the vibration, orientation, temperature and other relevant conditions with a packaging specialist. A convenient workshop shake does not represent every shipping route.

Keep endpoints separate

Endpoint What it describes
Removal torque Opening behaviour under the measurement method
Leak observation Evidence of containment failure
Component condition Damage, deformation or other change

Avoid testing the same closure twice as if untouched

Opening a package changes its history. Plan separate samples or a justified repeated-use protocol rather than measuring removal torque before transport and then treating the reclosed bottle as an original package. If a revised closure passes, confirm the relevant filling and distribution conditions as well. The conclusion should identify the tested package system and challenge, not claim that one torque value guarantees leak-free transport everywhere.
