Separate installer familiarisation from product comparison so a new coating is judged under a fair and repeatable workflow.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

An experienced installer may initially work faster with a familiar coating than with a new one. That difference can be commercially relevant, but it does not automatically show that the new formula is intrinsically harder to apply. Decide whether the trial measures first-use experience or trained performance.
In the familiarisation phase, read the instructions, practise on suitable panels and resolve procedural uncertainty. Record questions, missed steps and training time. In the comparison phase, use the agreed process and collect the outcomes that will support selection. Keep practice panels out of the formal comparison unless first-use performance is the stated question.
| Phase | Useful measures | Business question |
|---|---|---|
| First use | Questions, errors, support time | How difficult is onboarding? |
| Familiar operation | Accepted finish, task time, rework | How does the process run after training? |
If every installer tests A first and B second, B may benefit from improved panel handling or suffer from fatigue. Rotate or randomise product order where practical. Give both products appropriate familiarisation rather than repeatedly practising only the preferred candidate.
Suppose the first three applications of a new coating require extra instruction, while later applications become consistent. Report both the learning requirement and the stable workflow. Do not hide the initial difficulty, but do not present the first attempt as representative of all trained work either.
If performance remains inconsistent, examine whether the instructions are ambiguous or the method is unsuitable for the intended workshop. Repeated practice should not become an excuse to overlook a genuine usability problem.
Have a second operator follow the written procedure without relying on unrecorded hints from the first. Observe where they hesitate and which decisions need clearer guidance. The goal is a process the business can teach, not a result only one highly experienced person can reproduce.
Use the findings to estimate onboarding time and update the instruction card before a broader launch. Application ease is most useful when it survives the handover.
Ask NANOLAB about your surface and intended use. For application and care, use the current instructions for the exact product.
