A Coating Performance Dashboard That Keeps Failure Modes Separate

Build a coating performance dashboard that separates application, appearance, maintenance and packaging outcomes instead of hiding them in one score.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A dashboard should help a coating team choose an action. Combining every complaint into one satisfaction number can hide whether the real issue is application, packaging, product selection or long-term maintenance.

Use separate outcome families

Family Example measure
Application Accepted installations and rework cases
Appearance Defined optical issues by substrate
Maintenance Cleaning complaints and confirmed recovery results
Packaging Leaks, dispensing issues and damage
Support Resolution time and recurring question topics

Show denominators and status

Keep orders, bottles, installers and applications distinct. A complaint count without the relevant population can be misleading. Mark cases as reported, investigating or resolved, and do not count every initial allegation as a confirmed product failure.

Use time fairly

Group shipments or installations by cohort where follow-up age matters. Recent installations have less exposure time than older ones. A low complaint count in a new cohort may simply reflect limited observation.

Include the context that changes the decision

Record product version, batch, substrate and relevant process. Keep personally identifying customer data out of broad dashboards unless required for the authorised workflow. The technical view can usually use a case identifier.

A practical review

Suppose overall complaints rise while confirmed coating-performance cases remain stable and dispensing complaints increase. The dashboard should direct attention to the packaging route. A single total score might instead trigger unnecessary formulation changes.

If one installer accounts for repeated application issues, investigate training and conditions without assuming fault. If several trained installers report the same pattern across a batch, the technical review may need a different scope.

Attach actions to signals

Every recurring issue should have an owner, next check and review date. Preserve the raw cases behind summaries so the team can examine exceptions.

A useful dashboard keeps failure modes visible and supports targeted improvement. Its purpose is understanding the product system, not generating a flattering headline number.

Discuss your private-label coating project. For application and care, use the current instructions for the exact product.
