A Ceramic Coating Claim Matrix: Connect Each Promise to Its Evidence

Connect each coating marketing claim to the exact product, test, substrate and limitations using a practical evidence matrix.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A coating’s marketing language should be traceable to evidence for the product being sold. A claim matrix makes that connection visible and prevents a result from one test or formulation being reused beyond its scope.

Use one row per promise

Field What to record
Claim The exact customer-facing statement
Product Formula or version and relevant batch identity
Evidence Test method, samples, exposure and result
Scope Substrate, conditions and intended use
Limitations What the evidence does not establish

Match the claim to the measured property

A water-beading test supports an observation about water behaviour. It does not by itself prove scratch resistance, corrosion protection or years of service. A cleaning-time trial supports its defined maintenance comparison, not a universal statement that cleaning is unnecessary.

Distinguish evidence maturity

Label an exploratory demonstration, controlled trial and ongoing field record differently. Record whether testing was internal or external without implying that either label automatically guarantees quality. The method and relevance still need review.

A practical example

A brand proposes “cuts cleaning time in half.” Its available evidence is one installer cleaning one demonstration panel faster than another. The matrix exposes missing information: comparable contamination, accepted finish, independent repetitions and representative use. Until those gaps are addressed, the wording should stay at the level the demonstration actually supports.

Review changes

Link the matrix to formulation, packaging and instruction revisions. A changed product or method may require reassessment of affected claims. Keep a review date and owner so an old statement does not survive merely because nobody remembers its origin.

Use the matrix when preparing product pages, labels, training and distributor presentations. It should make accurate claims easier to communicate, not bury the reader in technical detail. Strong marketing is specific enough to be checked and clear enough that customers understand the practical benefit.
