Validate rack pads and contact locations on coated glass through realistic handling trials before approving production storage.
Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A glass rack that handles untreated panes successfully may still create marks on a freshly coated surface. Contact material, pressure, movement and handling time should be assessed as part of the coating process rather than treated as unrelated logistics.
Identify pads, separators, restraints and any temporary supports that touch the glass. Record whether they contact the treated face, an edge or the opposite face. Include loading and unloading contacts, not only the final resting position.
| Variable | Pilot record |
|---|---|
| Contact material | Exact pad or separator identity and condition |
| Timing | Interval between coating and contact |
| Load and movement | Representative supported pane and handling route |
| Inspection | Contact zone and adjacent reference zone |
Use representative coated glass and the product’s approved handling conditions. Compare contact areas with untouched reference areas under the same light. Inspect immediately after removal and again at an appropriate later review point if delayed marking is a concern.
A clean pad used once is not a complete qualification for a pad reused throughout a shift. Consider how it is inspected, cleaned and replaced during normal work. Residue accumulated on contact materials can change the result.
A rectangular patch matching a rack pad suggests a contact relationship, but it does not identify whether the issue is transferred residue, abrasion or another interaction. Preserve the pad identity and handling record. Use an approved small-area cleaning check before deciding whether the coating requires rework.
“Soft foam” is not a sufficient specification. Approve the actual contact component, its condition, permitted timing and replacement rule. A supplier change or different pane weight may require another trial.
Safe structural support remains the responsibility of the glass handling system. Do not remove necessary supports or change restraint arrangements to avoid cosmetic marks without competent review. The coating process must fit a safe handling route, with contact protection validated within that route.
