A First-Article Review for an Unusual Shower Glass Order

Review unusual shower glass orders before batch coating by checking geometry, treatment scope, handling and the accepted first article.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

An unusual shower glass order can expose assumptions hidden in a routine coating process. Large panes, decorative finishes, multiple cut-outs or restricted handling areas deserve a first-article review before the full batch starts.

List what changed from routine work

Compare the order with the established process. Identify glass type, surface treatments, dimensions, intended coated face, hardware interfaces and packing requirements. A change in geometry can affect access even when the glass chemistry is unchanged.

Change Question before coating
Decorative or factory-treated glass Is the exact surface compatible?
Unusual cut-outs Can application and inspection reach the boundaries?
Larger pane Can safe handling and timing be maintained?
Different hardware Which interfaces must remain untreated?

Prepare one representative article

Use the actual approved materials and planned production route. Record the method, consumables, times and any deviation. Have the teams responsible for coating, inspection and packing review the same piece rather than approving isolated steps independently.

Inspect the difficult features

Check corners, cut-out boundaries, handling contacts and changes in surface appearance. Confirm that the panel identity and treated face remain clear after packing. A central flat area may look perfect while the geometry-specific risks remain unresolved.

For example, a door with several hardware cut-outs may require a revised movement sequence to avoid touching prepared glass. The first article should demonstrate that sequence, not merely show that the coating can be applied somewhere on the pane.

Release only the demonstrated scope

Document acceptance and the conditions under which it applies. If the batch contains different glass finishes or substantially different shapes, one first article may not cover them all. Define which variants need their own review.

Keep unresolved issues on hold with a named next action. Production pressure is not evidence of compatibility. A short first-article review is useful precisely because it resolves the exceptional features before they are repeated across an expensive order.

Discuss a shower-glass coating project. For application and care, use the current instructions for the exact product.
