Ceramic Coating on PPF with a Factory Warranty: Keep the Documents Together

A factory warranty on paint protection film does not automatically approve every aftermarket coating.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

A factory warranty on paint protection film does not automatically approve every aftermarket coating. Before combining the two, gather the current warranty, installation record and care instructions for the exact film. Keep the coating's technical guidance beside them so the maintenance plan has a traceable basis.

Ask specific compatibility questions

Identify the film manufacturer, product line, finish and installation date. Then ask whether the proposed coating and preparation process are permitted. A statement about coatings in general may not answer a question about a particular solvent preparation or matte surface.

Clarify who is providing the answer and retain it in writing. The installer, film manufacturer and coating supplier may cover different aspects of the combination. Do not translate an informal assurance into a broader warranty promise for the customer.

Review requirements for washing, curing, inspections and claims. Record any restrictions on abrasive correction or chemical decontamination. Warranty terms can change, so use the document applicable to the installed product rather than an old screenshot from another vehicle.

Create a useful handover record

Include the film invoice or installation reference, product identity, coating identity, application date and permitted maintenance products. Add photographs of the condition at handover, especially seams and existing defects. Keep sensitive customer information out of public marketing materials.

Explain where the owner should report a problem and what information will help the initial assessment. A coating application does not settle whether a later issue comes from the film, preparation, impact or maintenance. Clear records support that investigation without promising an outcome. If compatibility remains unresolved, defer the coating and use the film's approved care routine instead.
