A Wrapped Car with Printed Sponsor Graphics: Map the Different Finishes

Printed sponsor graphics can create several care zones on a wrapped car.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Printed sponsor graphics can create several care zones on a wrapped car. The main wrap, printed ink, laminate, cut lettering and exposed paint may each have different restrictions. A coating suitable for one zone should not automatically be spread across the complete design.

Build a material map

Ask the graphics supplier for the film and laminate specifications, including any areas without a protective laminate. Mark overlaps, edges and replaced sections on photographs. A visually uniform colour can conceal a different material beneath it, particularly after repairs or sponsor changes.

Check cleaning and coating compatibility with the supplied specifications. Pay attention to solvent restrictions and the intended gloss level. A matte laminate and a glossy logo may be deliberate parts of the design; making both look equally shiny would change the artwork.

Where a trial is supported, use spare material from the actual print and laminate combination. A plain wrap offcut does not test how the finished graphic assembly will respond. Inspect the cured trial for colour change, uneven gloss and deposits along printed details.

Make maintenance practical for the owner

Create a simple care sheet showing which products can be used across all zones and which require local treatment. A single compatible routine is easier to follow than a complicated collection of products, but only if it suits every relevant surface.

During washing, protect exposed edges from concentrated pressure and abrasive tools according to the film instructions. Document new graphics whenever they are fitted, because the original compatibility assessment may no longer cover the changed car. Coating does not strengthen a lifting edge or correct a poorly bonded replacement decal; refer those issues to the installer.
