A PPF and Coating Handover for a Second-Hand Car Buyer

A used car advertised as having PPF and ceramic coating needs a material record, not just a description in the sales listing.

A used car advertised as having PPF and ceramic coating needs a material record, not just a description in the sales listing. The buyer should know where the film is, which products were used and how the surface has been maintained. Missing information is a reason to investigate, not to invent a protection history.

Collect the available documents

Request installation invoices, film product details, coating records and current care instructions. Check whether any warranty transfer process applies by contacting the relevant provider and reading the applicable terms. Do not assume that a warranty follows the vehicle automatically.

Create a panel map showing partial coverage, repaired sections and known unprotected areas. Photograph edges and existing defects during a clean, dry inspection. Different water behaviour across the car can have several causes and should not be treated as a reliable map of coating coverage.

Ask about recent polishing, chemical treatments and replacement panels. These events may change the original surface system even when the initial installation documents are complete.

Start ownership with a conservative baseline

Use a maintenance routine supported by the identified film and coating. Where information is missing, obtain an installer assessment before aggressive decontamination or correction. Avoid immediately adding a new product simply to make water bead more uniformly.

Keep a new maintenance log from the purchase date, separating verified history from seller statements and unknowns. Include photographs, products used and any professional inspection findings. This gives the next service provider a reliable starting point and helps the buyer decide whether ordinary care, local repair or replacement is the appropriate investment.
