Bulk Coating Consumption Forecasts: Separate New Customers from Existing Reorders

A bulk demand forecast should distinguish established reorder demand from expected new-customer demand. The two components may have different evidence and uncertainty, even when they are combined into one purchase plan.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

The key distinction

Use actual reorder history where available and label assumptions for new accounts. Keep proposed launches and unconfirmed enquiries separate from committed consumption so the supplier discussion reflects a realistic range.

Practical checks

  1. Build the existing-customer baseline.
  2. Add clearly identified new-customer scenarios.
  3. Review the combined quantity against storage and supply constraints.

Example

Illustrative example: a distributor expects ten established workshops to reorder and also hopes to recruit ten more. Treating both groups as equally certain doubles the forecast without equivalent evidence.

Scope and limits

Do not invent conversion rates or customer commitments. This guide does not recommend a stock quantity; it makes the evidence behind a bulk purchasing assumption visible.
