Coating Label Roll Direction: Approve the Feed Orientation with the Packer

A label can have correct artwork and still feed incorrectly into the selected application process. Confirm roll orientation, winding and the packer's required format before ordering production quantities.

The key distinction

The printer and packer need a shared description or drawing that removes ambiguity about which edge leads and which side faces outward. Terms can be interpreted differently, so an approved physical sample or diagram is more useful than an informal instruction such as normal winding.

Practical checks

  1. Obtain the packer's documented label-supply requirements.
  2. Reconcile them with the printer's drawing and order specification.
  3. Trial a representative roll before releasing the full production run.

Example

Illustrative example: a label roll arrives with the artwork correctly printed but oriented opposite to the applicator's expected feed. The team may face rework or a delayed filling schedule. A small trial using the actual equipment would have exposed the mismatch before the large order.

Scope and limits

This guide does not specify a universal roll direction, core size or winding format. The selected printer and equipment determine those requirements. Keep the approved supply drawing with the artwork revision so that a repeat order does not preserve the image while accidentally changing the physical label format.
