DSC for Coatings: Thermal Events Need Technical Interpretation

DSC measures heat-flow behaviour associated with thermal events. A peak or transition needs interpretation in the context of the sample and method.

Updated · NANOLAB Knowledge

Practical approach

Ask the laboratory to identify the event, preparation and thermal history, and explain what the result supports.

A thermal transition is not automatically the maximum safe service temperature of a coated component.

Decision limits

Do not convert a laboratory curve into an application limit without the required product and engineering evidence.
