Practical approach
Record edge preparation, sealing where required and the area used for evaluation. Keep this arrangement consistent across samples.
A result dominated by an untreated cut edge may not answer the intended question about the coated central surface.
Decision limits
Do not exclude edge failures after seeing them unless the agreed method provides that exclusion. Define the evaluation region in advance.
