Topping up a working supply vessel with another batch makes later traceability more complicated. The vessel may then contain material from several production histories.

Practical approach
Empty and manage the vessel through an approved procedure before changing batches, or use a documented method that explicitly tracks the mixture and has supplier approval.
A half-full dispensing bottle from batch A is topped up from batch B. A later complaint cannot be assigned exclusively to either batch from that bottle's label alone.
Decision limits
Do not invent a new batch identity that conceals the original inputs. Keep the relationship between source batches and filled units recoverable.
