Why Does Ceramic-Coated Paint Feel Rough?
Investigate bonded contamination and surface condition before choosing clay, polishing or another coating layer.

Roughness needs a cause
Road contamination, overspray, mineral deposits and other bonded material can make a coated surface feel less smooth. The change does not automatically establish that the protective layer has worn away. Avoid repeatedly rubbing dirty paint to assess it.
Begin with a compatible wash and visual inspection. Review where the car has been parked or driven and whether nearby work could have produced overspray or airborne deposits.
Use targeted cleaning first
Choose any chemical decontamination according to the identified contaminant and substrate compatibility. Follow the working time and rinsing instructions. A colour reaction or partial improvement does not prove all remaining texture has the same cause.
Mechanical clay treatment may introduce marring or affect the coating. Consider it after assessment rather than as the automatic first response on a maintained coating.
Check the finish after treatment
If roughness persists, have the surface inspected before aggressive correction. Paint defects or heavy contamination may require a more specific process. Where polishing is necessary, plan for its effect on the coating and any local reapplication. Adding a topper over a rough surface does not remove the material creating that texture and can make later diagnosis harder.
