Fresh and Dry Pads in a Polish Trial: Control the Starting Condition

Pad moisture changes a polishing comparison. Begin with a defined pad condition so a liquid is not judged against an uncontrolled amount of water.

Write down the starting state

Identify whether the pad is new, washed and fully dried, or prepared using a product-specific priming method. A pad that feels nearly dry can still differ from one dried through its foam. Follow the manufacturer’s preparation instructions for the actual system.

Keep moisture out of the conclusion

If a trial changes after a pad swap, record the pad history before declaring the compound inconsistent. Moisture, residual detergent and absorbed product can all change the working observation. Use comparable pads and keep the liquid dose, section and inspection method consistent.

Reset rather than improvise

Do not add water, extra compound or an unrelated drying method simply to reproduce the preferred feel. Return to a suitable, known pad condition and repeat the test. Store cleaned pads only after the approved drying process is complete, and document exceptions.

Frequently asked question

Does a damp pad prove a compound is easier to use?

It proves only how that particular combination behaved. A useful comparison needs the same approved starting conditions.
